What does your name mean and why did your parents choose it for you?

"Lan" is orchid in both Chinese and Vietnamese. Supposedly my cousin (my mom's goddaughter) had a friend in preschool named Huong Lan and really liked that name. It also fits the naming schema that my family in particular likes to employ: first letter of the first name is the same as the first letter of the father's first name. My brother's name was supposed to be Linh but a miscommunication with the nurse resulted in his first name being Dominic Linh...which is why my brother has an American name and I don't. Had the same mistake happened to me, I would have ended up with the name Anna.

What do you absolutely refuse to eat?

Chicken feet. Raw onions. Bell peppers. I think that's it.

Where do you go to get away from it all?

I run. When I run, I'm not worried about everything else going on in my life. I'm just worried about my breathing and putting one foot in front of the other...oh, and not getting run over by cars. When I run by myself, my mind clears. When I run with someone else, I can bounce my ideas off of them. It's relaxing...with the added benefit of not getting fat.

What, to you, is the first sign of spring? Have you seen it yet?

Daylight Savings Time! Longer days means I can run after work on different routes...routes that would be unsafe in the winter darkness. I can now run through GG Park and the Presidio after work...which means that I'm more inspired when I run and not so bored!

But really, there's nowhere in the world that I DON'T want to go. Except maybe the deep jungles where I'd be eaten alive by mosquitoes.

I want to be able to teleport. When I was a kid, I had totally thought that by the year 2000, we'd be living on the moon and teleportation would have totally been the norm already.

How awesome would it be to be able to walk through a door and instantly be in another place anywhere in the world? I could visit Greece on my lunch breaks!

If you could open a restaurant, any kind you want, what would it look like and what's on the menu?
